In the epic adventure musical, MOANA, Te Fiti is the natural provider of life essence to the island people. But with such abundance of natural beauty, access to resources, and the power to affect earth, wind, fire and air, Te Fiti endured constant violence by forces who sought to own her splendor and control her supernatural powers.
Once her heart was stolen, Te Fiti raged into her Shadow Self - Te Ka. Motivated by anger, distrust, injustice and pity, Te Ka punishes not the forces who violated her, but rather the tribe who celebrate her. Te Ka serves as a symbol for sex workers who have shut down their creative power in order to function with mechanical proficiency.
Te Fiti Sanctuary allows former sex workers to transition from mechanical habits into creative pursuits thus parlaying life experiences and personal perspectives into insightful streams and provocative storytelling.
